Starting from Mbale town , only 200km East of  Kampala and 2 hours from Jinja. We have a beautiful drive to the top of Mt. Wanale, we will talk about flying, safety, and go over an explanation of the equipment.

Mount Wanale has an impressive cliff band ranging from 150 to 260 meters high, spanning the entire circumference with multiple waterfalls. This means it is possible to launch from any side. Wanale is interesting geographically because it is a free standing mountain separated from the base of Mt Elgon by less than 1 kilometer.

With over 4000 square kilometers, Mount Elgon has the largest surface area of any extinct volcano in the world! Geologists believe that due to this broad base, Elgon may have once been higher than Kilimanjaro previous to a major eruption some 10,000,000 years ago.

Our launch is located at an elevation of 1630m, this is a 510m elevation difference from the landing sites.

Flight duration averages between 15 minutes and 1 hour, just near the Wanale cliffs with beautiful in flight waterfall vistas. Many days we actually gain between 50 and 200 meters of elevation during the flight. Paragliding is a weather based activity, this is the reason for the variance in flight duration. We include 2 nights accommodation in Mbale to ensure the best experience possible. Many times all flights will be finished by 3pm, although it is possible to finish after 5pm. At this stage it is most practical to stay the second night, rather than traveling after dark. This will also give us the opportunity to discuss another flight for the following day.

This is a new activity in the area, there is currently virtually no tourism around Mbale town, which means we will have a very precious cultural experience as well.

We use new DHV and Manufacturer certified equipment which is double checked before every flight. All of our pilots are United States Hang Gliding and Paragliding T3 certified Tandem Instructors. We adhere to all USHPA safety standards and guidelines.

Fly Mami Afrika is the first and only paragliding operator in Uganda. We have been exploring Africa’s wilderness for 6 years now and have chosen Mt. Wanale as our first Tandem location, in the future we will expand by offering flights from other locations throughout Uganda as well as guided paragliding tours for established pilots and paragliding instruction. To ensure your tandem flight with us book a minimum of 5 days prior to the time you wish to fly!!

     Free flight via paragliding is as similar an experience humans can have to flying like a bird.

We require a deposit to confirm all booking dates, please inquire about different methods to provide deposit. We have a minimum weight for passengers of 25 kilos and a maximum weight of 115 kilos

We also offer Combo packages that include your flight and accommodation in Mbale town and a 2-3 night stay at beautiful Sipi River Lodge, which is located 1 hour North in Sipi Falls.

The Lodge is set amongst 17 acres of private grounds, which include the 80m Kapsurur Falls (the second of the three Sipi waterfalls), several caves and peaceful gardens to explore.
